0:01 it's not just a network it's an
0:03 enablement system for many things not
0:05 just sustainability not just for
0:07 safeguarding not for just for
0:09 connectivity but every experience
0:12 throughout
0:19 University hello my name is Jamie
0:21 pitchforth I'm head of education at
0:23 Juniper across Europe middle EAS and
0:25 Africa today I'm in conversation with
0:27 Chris Leakey head of IT operation
0:30 at the University of Central Lancashire
0:32 hi Chris good to meet you and you jery
0:34 good to meet you so digital
0:36 transformation has become a very broad
0:38 subject what does digital transformation
0:41 mean to you and what do you see the role
0:45 of juniper in enabling that digital
0:47 transformation so it's fair to say Jamie
0:49 that the University have made a
0:50 significant investment but they didn't
0:52 go out to say I want to buy Network they
0:55 wanted to buy a platform that would
0:56 enable the delivery of world-class
0:57 education to students fundamental we get
1:00 all the benefits that junip can give us
1:03 and we have a worldclass system that can
1:04 do all the use cases that we need in a
1:06 university 10 faculties at the
1:08 University of Santa lanasia many
1:10 different use cases and Innovation
1:13 particularly digital Innovation handsets
1:15 devices and new connected devices in the
1:17 world of iot um the growth is phenomenal
1:21 how are you keeping Pace with the
1:23 demands of the students and and the
1:26 university in general so it's fair to
1:28 say we've looked at this you know when
1:29 our students come and stay with us in
1:31 our Halls of residence they want a home
1:32 from home Hotel style approach you know
1:35 they want the access point in the in the
1:37 room they want to be able to plug in all
1:39 the different devices you know they
1:41 don't just come with a laptop anymore
1:42 it's Alexa it's Siri it's various
1:45 platforms that they all bring and they
1:46 all want to work it has to be on they
1:49 have to be able to connect anywhere
1:51 anytime Juniper will give us that
1:54 excellent and from a procurement point
1:56 of view you went out to the market you
1:58 looked at all the different vendors
2:00 Juniper was the chosen technology which
2:02 is obviously makes us very happy and you
2:04 know Welcome to our higher education
2:06 Community why did you choose Juniper
2:08 what stood out I've inherited a world
2:10 class selection for a world-class
2:12 solution the put the key point being
2:14 it's data driven data is the key it's
2:17 the lifeblood of any organization we
2:19 need to know what's happening where it's
2:21 happening when it's happening and no
2:22 longer be reactive but proactive be able
2:25 to take us that step further and that's
2:27 what we'll get here and that's why this
2:29 product Stand Out Head and Shoulders
2:31 above any of else so Simplicity in being
2:34 able to very very quickly identify
2:36 issues or potential issues that could be
2:38 servicing affecting is critical to you
2:41 guys absolutely you know I talk a lot
2:44 and colleagues will know at the
2:45 University I talk about the whole thing
2:46 of
2:47 TCO we can't spend a huge amount of time
2:51 troubleshooting incidents we can't spend
2:53 a huge amount of time provisioning new
2:56 services for our students and our staff
2:58 we need to be acting at fastpac deliver
3:01 and deliver value early that's what this
3:03 solution does and out of the box we also
3:06 get a new part of the team of course new
3:07 employe Marvis Marvis doesn't say
3:10 holidays either which is even
3:12 better no absolutely it's uh been a
3:14 revelation and a game changer for us and
3:17 certainly for our customers in terms of
3:19 that Simplicity element and and focusing
3:22 in on user experience the one of the big
3:25 benefits that many of our customers are
3:27 now taking is the analytics and the
3:29 insights in real time that allow you to
3:32 assure a user experience how important
3:35 is that to you and your students
3:37 critical whether I'm the whether we're
3:39 talking about students who are studying
3:41 cyber security whether we've got a
3:43 student who's in Fine Arts whether we've
3:45 got a student in dentistry it has to be
3:47 on it has to be working it has to be
3:49 simple has to be straightforward to
3:51 consume and service needs to be
3:53 available and then to top it off if we
3:55 go and put something in like location
3:57 services for example we're then
3:59 enhancing the service it's no longer
4:01 just a network and yes I've got internet
4:03 connectivity but actually I've got a
4:05 solution that enhances the whole
4:07 experience so location services and
4:10 specifically that virtual Bluetooth
4:12 capability which is now integrated
4:13 within our access points is a really
4:16 strong Foundation that we're seeing
4:18 across the higher education Community
4:20 for digital transformation how are you
4:22 looking to use the intelligence that
4:24 footfall intelligence linking into your
4:27 uh estate systems really to Drive
4:30 efficiencies and and make the buildings
4:32 more efficient in uh in how they're
4:34 being used from a sustainability and
4:36 carbon neutralization perspective
4:39 sustainability it's a key issue both for
4:41 us you know key objective for any
4:43 University at the moment and a key
4:44 driver for many students when they're
4:46 selecting the university you know
4:48 University of Central Lasher will get
4:50 huge benefits from understanding the
4:51 footfall of their students where do they
4:54 go when do they go there what's in use
4:56 what's not you know we have a huge
4:58 estate over 50 buildings we need to
5:01 understand all those moving parts so
5:03 it's been able to look at analytics
5:05 around student engagement which can
5:07 impact things like health and well-being
5:09 you can use that as a as a really good
5:11 insight as a barometer towards retention
5:14 is a student actually engaged
5:16 consistently and regularly or are they
5:18 not so are you planning to use these
5:21 capabilities within the university as
5:23 you embark on your digital Journey
5:25 absolutely you know and it moves into
5:27 things like Safeguard absolutely that
5:29 can put it any better for me you've then
5:31 got things like critical Arc of course
5:33 to integrate it becomes a solution
5:36 that's the whole point it's not just the
5:38 network service it's not just
5:39 connectivity and you know I think it's
5:42 1.5 MERS accuracy we can get with vbl
5:45 that's absolutely the place to go it's
5:47 not just a network it's an enablement
5:50 system for many things not just
5:52 sustainability not just for safeguarding
5:55 not for just for connectivity but every
5:58 experience throughout University
6:00 it's always exciting when a university
6:03 joins the Juniper community that is
6:05 already using technologies that are
6:07 already integrated with our platforms so
6:10 critical Arc Incident Management
6:13 personal security such a critical
6:16 element of of outcome and value that
6:18 that the universities are seeking you
6:21 have critical Arc you now have Juniper
6:23 are you looking forward to that
6:24 integration and delivering that
6:26 additional value absolutely you know
6:28 there's many things that we need to
6:30 integrate with juniper it's not just
6:31 that but we need to have a whole
6:33 ecosystem integrated from top to bottom
6:35 to deliver that whole experience for the
6:38 whole of the students and staff at the
6:40 University wherever they may be so yes
6:43 absolutely it's a key thing whether it's
6:44 a safeg garden whether it's coms and
6:47 everything in between yeah no absolutely
6:49 and I think you're on a journey that
6:51 some of our users and some of our our
6:54 universities are maybe a little bit
6:56 ahead of the game cuz you're at the
6:57 start of that Journey but I think one of
6:58 the big benefits is the community that
7:00 we've built we now have I think 22
7:03 universities that are on their digital
7:05 Journey their digital transformation
7:07 with with juniper so coming into that
7:09 Community sharing ideas seeing what's
7:12 worked what's not worked is going to be
7:14 a really advantageous thing are you
7:16 looking to take benefit from that
7:17 Juniper community and fully Embrace that
7:20 absolutely we've started to do that in
7:21 other areas as well with other
7:22 Technologies but 100% we have to do that
7:25 what works for other universities should
7:27 work for the University of Central
7:28 lancas however why not be the leader as
7:31 well so why don't we start something new
7:33 and take us on a New Journey absolutely
7:35 the fact that we can look at things like
7:38 okay we're cyber Essentials plus we're
7:40 very proud of that but can our solution
7:42 take us to ISO 27,000 of one absolutely
7:46 no brain can it help us maint achieve
7:48 and maintain PCI absolutely no brain and
7:51 all of a sudden we then take our
7:53 students and our staff alike on this
7:55 journey yeah absolutely so the
7:58 foundation is is coming what what's
8:00 going to be your priority Focus as you
8:02 evolve over the next sort of 3 6 9 12
8:05 months deliver value absolutely you know
8:08 the objective is to De deliver value
8:11 improve the experience and look at when
8:14 we looked at how we deliver Wi-Fi today
8:16 we were able to use data from our
8:18 service test to enumerate how much our
8:21 student suffering that you have in terms
8:22 of Wi-Fi what sort of instance are we
8:24 seeing when are we seeing them where are
8:26 we seeing them what we'd like to see and
8:28 we're starting with
8:29 our hols of residents when we roll that
8:32 out do we see that come down do we see
8:34 those instants come down do we see that
8:36 experience go up absolutely that's what
8:39 we're looking for excellent R it's
8:41 exciting times and I think your future
8:43 looks absolutely fantastic you got the
8:46 perfect Foundation to start that digital
8:48 Journey so I'd like to say huge great
8:50 big thank you for taking the time out to
8:51 come and meet with us today very much
8:53 appreciated thank you Jamie and thanks
8:55 to everybody at Juniper it's you know an
8:57 absolute pleasure we look forward to
8:58 roll out and being supported by you and
9:00 other communities
