100ZR Demonstration: Test and Deployment

100ZR Demonstration: Test and Deployment
100GBASE-ZR (IEEE 802.3-2022) enters the coherent pluggable ecosystem as operators grapple with the limits of network capacity. Juniper Networks collaborates with EXFO and Precision Optical Technologies to pull together their solutions and respective areas of expertise and demonstrate 100ZR pluggable optics in action. 100ZR, in the ubiquitous QSFP28 form factor, not only provides operators with a new packet-optical convergence tool to migrate 1G/10G choke points, but also significantly extends 100G reach over DWDM and dark fiber architectures. Viewers will gain valuable insights on how to validate and deploy 100ZR QSFP28 coherent transceivers, both in the lab and in the field.
You’ll learn
Details about the optics' specifications, reach capabilities, and their use in both amplified and unamplified networks
What kind of equipment is used in the demo and insights into how the different devices are used in the setup and the configurations needed for operation
About technical aspects such as the optical parameters, monitoring capabilities, frequency tuning, and the importance of power and thermal management in supporting pluggable coherent optics

0:05 Juniper Networks and Precision Optical
0:07 Technologies we've built a small scale
0:10 demo to Showcase a real life example for
0:13 testing and deploying 100gr optics for
0:15 Network operators we've got a couple of
0:18 xfo test devices to generate traffic 100
0:22 ZR transceivers an eight channel maxd
0:25 Max a spool of 75 km of single mode 5
0:30 and a juniper host
0:32 platform Central to this system design
0:35 are footprint optimized 100gr Optics
0:38 that fit within the qsfp28 form factor
0:41 we're featuring a total of 400gr
0:43 plugable Optics two from juniper and two
0:46 from Precision Optical Technologies our
0:49 test platforms include two of the xfo
0:51 ftvx 88260 portable units who I have in
0:55 front of me each with a single 100 Gig
0:58 Port where we have one of the trans of
1:00 juniper and Precision Optics plugged in
1:03 respectively sending traffic by
1:05 directionally the Expo FTB 88260 module
1:08 is the most compact tester on the market
1:11 it does support 100 Gig ZR qsfp28
1:14 transceiver validation and provides a
1:16 variety of statistics and values like
1:18 Optical signal noise ratio uh CD PMD as
1:22 well as the capacity to configure the
1:23 characteristics of the client and the
1:25 transmission power these Optics are
1:27 intended for Long Reach application
1:30 either in unamplified or Amplified
1:32 networks with reaches up to 300 kmet
1:35 when paired with an optical line system
1:37 in our demo here these transceivers are
1:40 being connected to an 8 channel MOX with
1:43 100 GHz spacing and we're using IU
1:46 channels 29 and 31 on each side being
1:49 run over 75 kmers of fiber the mo in
1:53 another eight channel Mar that connects
1:55 to the Juniper ACX router uh hosting the
1:58 pier side 100 Gig Z Optics the success
2:02 of Ip over dwdm requires systems
2:04 designed mindfully to support the power
2:06 and thermal management requirements of
2:08 pluggable coherent Optics the Juniper
2:10 ACX 7024 part of Juniper's ACX 7000
2:13 Cloud Metro portfolio is an access and
2:16 aggregation router that delivers 24
2:18 multi- rate lowp speed fors for
2:20 Downstream connectivity and four 100 Gig
2:22 ports with uncompromising support for
2:24 100 Gig ZR coherent uplinks thanks to
2:27 Juniper's focus on standards the junos
2:29 operating system es seus host to module
2:31 interface specifications to both
2:33 configure and monitor key Optical
2:35 parameters on coherent DWD imp pluga
2:37 bles additionally with juniper support
2:39 for open apis operators can extract
2:41 relevant Optical information from the
2:43 router and consume them using open
2:45 source visualization tools like raana
2:47 one of the key advantages of 100 Gig ZR
2:49 Optics with the ciss is Advanced
2:51 monitoring parameters such as CD and
2:53 osnr and also the possibility to
2:56 natively tune the frequency to desired
2:58 channels via the the host as we're going
3:00 to do in the xfo and Juniper hosts as we
3:03 tune to the itu channels 33 and 35 for
3:07 host platforms that do not support simis
3:09 yet or have Legacy software that won't
3:11 be upgraded we're also going to show the
3:14 tuning capability of both Optics uh for
3:17 sfff manag optics for these 100 ZR
3:20 transceivers external tuning will need
3:22 to be performed using a host like the
3:24 Precision tn100 qsd management
3:27 module after tuning both trans reers to
3:30 a different Channel we will change the
3:31 physical MX connections to channel 33
3:33 and 35 on both sides causing the links
3:35 to go up again and traffic to start
3:37 flowing by directionally on both xfo and
3:39 Juniper host the availability of qsfp28
3:42 100 Gig ZR Solutions Builds on the
3:44 success of 400 gig zrzr plus extending
3:47 the compelling tcco benefits of Ip over
3:49 dwdm to new Metro Data Center and
3:52 Enterprise use cases with real world
3:54 alignment of low power and small form
3:56 factor coherent pluga bles purpose-built
