In the NOW — AI-Innovators @ Dartmouth
“You can just bring up Marvis and literally say, ‘What is wrong with Bob’s Wi-Fi today?’ and it’ll give you back an answer.”
Using AI in education isn’t some unproven future concept. It’s in practice now. Look at Dartmouth. Wi-Fi isn’t just the primary mode of access at this Ivy League institution—it’s the only one. So, IT always needs to know how the Wi-Fi is doing.
See how this innovator is using AI-Native Networking to simplify troubleshooting and detect and fix subpar wireless experiences before anyone is impacted. This video offers a comprehensive analysis of Dartmouth College's implementation of Juniper Networks' AI-Native Networking solutions to enhance campus-wide connectivity and user experience. Drawing on expert insights, it underscores the transformative impact of AI on managing complex network environments efficiently.

0:11 Dartmouth is a liberal arts college in
0:14 New Hampshire when I started at
0:15 Dartmouth in 2011 we had about 4,500
0:17 devices on the wireless network
0:19 yesterday we topped 27,000 we're no
0:21 longer at the point where Wi-Fi is the
0:23 primary access method it's the only
0:25 access you genuinely have people who are
0:27 never going to plug any device ever into
0:30 Network again so in order to address all
0:31 these needs we're currently deploying is
0:33 comprehensive 5 GHz coverage with M
0:36 initially when we started the journey
0:38 with mist we actually thought the AI
0:39 part was a gimmick just because Ai and
0:41 ml are the two most commonly used
0:43 buzzwords people throw at you as it
0:45 turns out Miss AI engine Marvis has been
0:48 transformational in how we approach
0:50 solving Wireless tickets Marvis
0:52 basically just enables people to
0:54 interact with all of the data that m is
0:56 accumulating as a system and ask it
0:58 natural language questions you can just
0:59 bring up Marvis and literally say what
1:02 is wrong with Bob's Wi-Fi today and
1:04 it'll give you back an answer all of
1:06 this also really plays into um our
1:08 current drive to get back into what a
1:11 Dartmouth used to be described as the
1:13 Golden Age of computing back in the 50s
1:15 and 60s we had a bunch of mathematic
1:17 professors who were way ahead of their
1:18 time the first time that the words
1:20 artificial and intelligence were put
1:21 together were at a 1956 summer workshop
1:24 at Dartmouth with names like Marvin
1:25 Minsky Claud Shannon I mean the 20
1:28 people of who is who in AI or
1:30 information Theory today as it has
1:33 become more commoditized we kind of
1:34 slipped away from working together and
1:36 trying to make something better happen
1:38 so now we're trying to undergo an effort
1:40 to get back to more of a partnership and
1:42 actually enhance what they're doing in
1:43 their job instead of just providing the
1:45 your Basics that they need to do their
1:46 job and I think with this Juniper missed
1:49 new network upgrade we're very much
1:51 trying to deliver exactly that
