Solutions & Technologies
Distributed cloud services, 5G, the Internet of Things (IoT), and rich content are creating a hotbed of activity and innovation in metro networks. Service providers are preparing to harness it all as they address hyperscale metro traffic growth and resolve to create new customer network experiences, today and in the future.
They can use Juniper’s Passive Optical Network (PON) solution to help them succeed. The solution’s Unified PON product family provides an economical and scalable path to 10 Gig (10G) PON that integrates easily into existing Juniper Cloud Metro networks and interoperates with third-party PON distribution equipment.

Adding PON to your access services has never been easier. Juniper combines a smart-pluggable optical line terminal (OLT) with select ACX Series Universal Metro Routers, industry-leading BroadbandNetwork Gateway (BNG) technology, and a comprehensive, proven management suite for highly scalable, fiber-based metro access and aggregation deployments.
Our smart-pluggable OLT technology easily integrates with other Juniper metro products so operators can take advantage of Junos OS, Juniper BNGs, Paragon Automation, and more as they add 10G PON offerings to their service portfolios. It also interoperates with third-party PON distribution equipment.
Eliminate large, power-hungry OLT shelves when you insert Juniper smart-pluggables into unused 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ ports on select ACX Series routers. Make service technology decisions on a port-by-port basis to enable service variety, flexibility, and a pay-as-you-grow deployment model.
The Juniper solution has been designed for open PON ecosystems and has been validated as interoperable with a wide variety of PON distribution devices from third parties. This approach frees you from single-vendor lock-in, enabling you to invest in best-of-breed solutions that meet your unique requirements.
