Customer Success Story
Researchers collaborate over Oklahoma Friction Free Network (OFFN) from OneNet and Juniper Networks
The primary driving force behind the Oklahoma Friction Free Network is to support researchers with 200 teraflops of high-performance computing power.
OneNet is Oklahoma’s statewide network, supporting the needs of its education, research, healthcare, and public service agencies. OneNet keeps its rural communities connected, and with OFFN, it provides a “friction free” network that allows scientists to conduct research by sending and receiving data without the constraints of a traditional enterprise network.
Business Challenge
OFFN connects researchers across Oklahoma’s major universities and the Tandy Supercomputing Center. Users include scientists from the Oklahoma Center for High Energy Physics (OCHEP) and from Langston University. They are participating in the ATLAS project, a high-energy physics experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. All users need the ability to share massive data sets quickly and easily.
Technology Solution
In its production network, OneNet uses Juniper solutions extensively, including SDN-ready MX Series 3D Universal Edge Routers for OFFN. It also uses QFX5100 Switches and EX4550 and EX4200 Ethernet Switches, which are a good fit for OneNet’s highly virtualized data centers. OneNet’s managed service is based on Juniper Networks SRX Series Services Gateways.
Business Results
Demand for bandwidth is up at OneNet, whether it’s scientists unlocking the mysteries of the universe, kindergartners eager to learn, or public safety and healthcare professionals looking after the wellbeing of citizens. Whatever comes next, OneNet can be confident that its Juniper network will be an agile, operationally simple infrastructure.
